Feeding Friends (for
delphicbooksandbaubles)
The teleportation is a sparkly affair. A pop of purple magic and the pair are now standing in a stone hallway. It stretches out far in front of them, marked by series of doors on either side before it turns a corner. There are interspersed sconces glowing with more pale purple magic, providing some gentle lighting. Underfoot is a purple sigil, apparently the target for the return spell. Behind, a plain, solid wall made of more cobalt stone.
The inherent gloom of this location does not appear to put off the caged scholar in the least. He's already reshouldering his new bookbag and stepping off the sigil, unthreading his arm from Ashlynn's, headed down the hall. Calling out, "Kin! I am back! I have more books! And someone who needs help! Kin, please come forth!"
Whatever this 'Kin' is, he's not the first to emerge. Instead, one of the rooms has a low, small flap on its heavy wood door. And pushing through it with one fuzzy cheek is a cat! It's nearly all white except for a few tabby-coloured spots. One on his forehead that looks strangely like an eye, and a few more on the back. Micolash makes a happy noise when this feline is spotted, walking faster to pick him up.
"Henry! Hello, Henry," he says, holding him out in both hands at arm length, cat hanging from his armpits. The cat squints in response and looks towards the lady that came along. "I've brought someone for Abysa to feed," the man explains to the feline before gathering the cat against his chest in the crook of one arm.

Oh, but now he's being told to join the food-making and getting ushered that direction by his headgear. Which he of course has to follow the direction of, at first a bit stumbling as he's surprised by it. Micolash is barely able to suppress a whine of despondency. "Oh, must I?" Then a sigh. "I suppose if she does not ask me to eat any of it..." The scholar is soon shuffling over to where cat and woman both are, fiddling with his fingers as he goes.
Once there, Micolash first just pays attention to Henry, petting him repeatedly as if to self-soothe in doing so. "So." Where to begin, where to begin. "...What are you going to make?"

She went over to the fridge to see what was in it to start with. Half mentally kicking and curseing herself. Honestly the hell-fire lights which her brain associated with brimstone/sulfer should have been a bigger red flag to her but she had wanted for at least a moment to hope for the best.
While anticipating some worse scenarios , which could still possibly happen. Course it didn't help it was harder to think when..her stomach gurgled again a mite louder. As she looked through selves standing at an angle so her back wasn't to either of them completely.
She blinked and looked up. "oh..um maybe some sandwiches?" She half asks half states.
no subject
"Sandwiches," the man echoes offhandedly, under his breath. Now that Henry isn't sniffing at him, he can resume petting said kitty. So soft. "Is that your...favourite?" By Kos, making conversation is hard, especially when it's about a subject he's so avoidant and now ignorant about.
"Henry's are treats," he adds, just to keep talking and trying to sound, you know. Engaging. "Little meat-flavoured tablets." Henry heard the word 'treat' and is already up and meowing loudly. Treats! TREATS! I WANT TREATS! What have you done, Micolash.
"...I should probably give him one now," he says regarding the kitty cacophony he's caused.

She checks the fridge to see what sort of bread and things there are. "I see.. oh um one of .." She murmurs sincerely. She was also a big fan of soups.
Especially, Stews, Beef stews most especially, Campbells and Progressive kinds once she'd been in StoryBrooke. Stews had been a stable back Home in Mist Haven. When one took what was available and put it into a pot to make something hearty and stretch out a long lasting dish. Especially when the winter was long and or money was tight. Which it had been at a few points in her and her family's life. And not just because of a bad harvest or winter either.
A part of her was similarly clammering for something of the beef or bacon variety. But it wasn't like she could just snatch it and leave if things went south. She blinked and nodded with a chuckle. "Aye most furry friends do. " She looks about to see if she can spot them.
"Oh? I could grab them for ya if ya like?" She half asks eyeing the cupboards and wondering if she was closer or not.

Okay, drawer is opened and a little bag of kitty treats in a shiny blue bag is extracted. There's a cute picture of an orange cartoon cat on it! Micolash...briefly gets wrapped up in crinkling the material of the bag before a frantic Henry starts trying to climb his arm to meow louder at the man's face. Oh! Right. Okay. He'll just-...It's opened up, a little square is extracted and the scholar hurriedly drops it onto the counter and pulling his hand back as if afraid it will be eaten along with the treat if he's not careful. Henry, of course, pounces on it and devours it with gusto.
"I forgot he gets excitable if he hears the word."
no subject
She puts a hand out to see if he'd sniff it. He seemed rather focused. "Perhaps put a few nearby for him?" She suggests and looks to see if theres any ham or chicken in the fridge. Her kitty and others liked that as well. First rule of the kitchen was make sure kitties had something to occupy before pulling out yer own food or they'd beg.
no subject
"Why does he eat like he's starving? He is always like this." Micolash uses one skinny finger to prod into Henry's plump side. See? Hardly in danger of starvation. Unlike the man doing the poking, but that's always a touchy subject, isn't it.
The fridge is thankfully well stocked, incidentally. Slices of meat and hearty bread are present, apparently already ready for sandwiches. Perhaps the demon had hoped that would have been simple enough for his guest and that proved to not be the case. Alas. It's honestly a good thing Ashlynn IS here or this stuff would just go to terrible waste.

Lawd, she missed them. Red was off seeking adventures in their old realm last she heard. hmm speaking of.
"He's a wee predator, inherited instinct I guess.. certain things take up a lot of energy. " She hadn't seen anything for Henry to chase as of yet though. "Does he got any toys..hmm..maybe we should get a laser pointer light for him to chase sometimes." She murmurs half in thought looking for plates and knifes.
no subject
"Oh, but he has many toys! A whole room just for him, in fact. Things to climb and play with. I enjoy watching him go about it. Have you had a cat before? He is my first." Wow, a whole childhood and adult life with no cats; that's sad! "Part of the reason I am not...always sure what they are up to or on about. But it is interesting to learn. I've always liked them, after all."
no subject
She points it on a less cluttered part of the counter and moves it a little back and forth. "oh that's good." She states with a nod. She wouldn't mind doing that..or hiding there if need be. She could try going small and puppy ish if push came to shove.
"Ah I see." She states and nods understandingly. "Aye. I have one back in Maine. And we had some barn cats back home. " She murmers warmly and informs him. hmm perhaps she could give him some advise.
no subject
"Maine? Why is the cat there and not with you?" Not that he knows what this 'Maine' is. He's getting slowly used to hearing places he's never heard of, at least. Micolash is briefly distracted from watching Henry's continued frantic attempts at laser pointer murder, smiling at ridiculous display. "I wasn't allowed pets growing up. And it was against the rules by the time I had away to college."
no subject
She softly moves the light around so he can play a bit doing little patterns and circles.
"Er well she's with my extended family as..I came to scout and see if I could find my best buddy.. Quests aren't the best place for kitties." She murmers explaining. Adopted and family by bond that was. Her in laws and few remaining relations we're back in Mist Haven.
Her eyes soften in sympathy,"Ah I see.." That wasn't uncommon either. "And now ya have this little guy. " She murmurs fondly, with a small smile.
no subject
"Oh but yes! Henry is wonderful to have around. I enjoy just watching him go about his business. How his whiskers twitch and ears move. How soft and silent his footsteps are." Micolash gives the cat another poke, which makes Henry jump, as he'd been focused on the task of dot hunting. "Does your cat look like him?"
no subject
Sometimes it was even hard for Sherlock to be comfortable around gentle cats sadly.
"Aye tis. " She blinks and jumps a little as well and the dot light shuts off and she tucks it away for now. Aww poor Henry. She thinks and goes to wash her hands again.
"Marie's a bit smaller and white very fluffy and French. " She informs him and makes a note to show him a picture after. She chuckles softly, "she's very friendly and loving, cuddly. " She adds drying her hands and putting some bread slices on a large plate, and readying a knife and debating between cold or something warm or both and various.
no subject
He's smiling again, however, with the description of her own cat back home. "What wonderful beasts to keep us company. So clever and shrewd. I do admire them so." He watches as Ashlynn begins to get food out and prepared and...scoots a step away. Why is Micolash so paranoid people are going to make him eat?! Everyone here knows he's not going to, calm down, sir.
no subject
She hums and nods, "Aye that they are. " She murmers and notes the movement out the corner of her eye as she tears some ham and turkey into smaller bits and puts them in front of Henry to see which he liked more and to keep him busy.
She internally debated for a moment and then started looking for a skillet. Cause frick it, she wanted something warm to start off though she did put a bit of turkey sneakily into her right check to hide and to suck on while her head was turned away to take the edge off. Besides if she had to run she though she hated the thought of wasting food she could toss..some small piece of something at Micolash and brandish the skillet Rapunzel/tangled style if need be.
If it became necessary. Which she hoped it wouldn't but one had to be prepared.
no subject
Henry, meanwhile, continues to prove he's a much better meal partner than his keeper ever will be, because he gets right to work on devouring both meat bits. And then licking his lips and sniffing/looking around for more. Micolash chides him, "Greedy," as he resumes petting the cat. His hand gets sniffed immediately out of hope for more food.
"Why are you so keen on finding your beast friend? Are you close?" Conversation might as well keep going, and this is a subject the scholar only realizes now that he's been wondering AND has no direct answers to. "Family? ...Spouse?"
no subject
She blinks and looks up, even without the compulstion one of her gifts gives her sometimes she feels being close to the truth is always best. If she has to talk. She blinks a bit owlishly though.
"Oh ah. Well.. he's the closest thing I have to a brother now a days. " She murmurs softly and sincerely. A brother of the heart however. In that they sort of adopted each other. The Baker Street gang has always been a sort of found family.
Her wolf, thought of him as pack for ages now and pack he would forever be.
no subject
"...I had a brother once. We were not. Close. At all." Oh, that'd do it, huh. With a guy who seems as dreamy and unsure as he is, only certain in absolutes of his particular experiences, of course Micolash would find the concept of brotherhood to be something one wouldn't want to seek out if his own was lacking.
no subject
Her face softens, "oh I'm sorry to hear that. " true that could happen. Sherlock often had rifts and spats with Mycroft but they still looked out for each other. They same was true about her and Connor. But he was the more run into things type but for good reasons.
no subject
Micolash sighs and leans down so he can rest on his folded arms. Henry wastes no time ambling over and flopping into the crook of those arms, reaching up one white paw to bat at the overhead handle of the man's cage. "I still don't even know what I did wrong. But ah well. It is the past and another lifetime ago besides. What does it matter anymore?" Maybe realizing he should switch the subject to something a little less dreary, he asks, "What of you? Any siblings by way of blood?"
no subject
She smiles softly glance Henry could give him affection at least. As she puts a pan on the stove and readies to cut and put some butter in it, before looking as how to lit the stove top. Bringing the other things she needs to make her first warm sandwich.
Her eyes saddened and haunted looking. "Oh, um aye.. I had a younger brother, Connor. He ahem, had compilations from.. a re opened war wound. There was a well.. we're still not sure exactly what sort of creature it was.. other then it looked like a boar. " a boar with some kind of magic.. it could have been a shifter or a sorcerer for all the clues they could find.
all they knew was the usual and unusual treatments they could get ahold of, at the very least eased some of the pain at the best of times. She and the others had run themselves near ragged. Her last hope.. had her going to Rumplestlskin.
no subject
Instead now, the man looks aside at where Ashlynn's expression has just gone troubled. "Had? Past tense? How sad. And to have such an unfortunate event. And no sign of the being or animal that caused his injury?"
no subject
"Still, it always effects those left behind in some manner. " She murmurs lowly.
She nods, "Aye, tis.. not for years the trails gone rather cold. " She murmurs though prehaps someday if they could get back to the enchanted forest.. or if whomever or whatever was involved.. got transported somewhere. Things and people had a bad habit of turning up in the oddest and worse places of late.
no subject
"Is this why you have designated your beast friend as a new brother?" A fresh level of awkwardness, this. Why is human interaction so difficult and nuanced?
