Feeding Friends (for
delphicbooksandbaubles)
The teleportation is a sparkly affair. A pop of purple magic and the pair are now standing in a stone hallway. It stretches out far in front of them, marked by series of doors on either side before it turns a corner. There are interspersed sconces glowing with more pale purple magic, providing some gentle lighting. Underfoot is a purple sigil, apparently the target for the return spell. Behind, a plain, solid wall made of more cobalt stone.
The inherent gloom of this location does not appear to put off the caged scholar in the least. He's already reshouldering his new bookbag and stepping off the sigil, unthreading his arm from Ashlynn's, headed down the hall. Calling out, "Kin! I am back! I have more books! And someone who needs help! Kin, please come forth!"
Whatever this 'Kin' is, he's not the first to emerge. Instead, one of the rooms has a low, small flap on its heavy wood door. And pushing through it with one fuzzy cheek is a cat! It's nearly all white except for a few tabby-coloured spots. One on his forehead that looks strangely like an eye, and a few more on the back. Micolash makes a happy noise when this feline is spotted, walking faster to pick him up.
"Henry! Hello, Henry," he says, holding him out in both hands at arm length, cat hanging from his armpits. The cat squints in response and looks towards the lady that came along. "I've brought someone for Abysa to feed," the man explains to the feline before gathering the cat against his chest in the crook of one arm.

"oh no not to kitty cats.." She reassures him quickly with a warm smile. "Sulfery things don't agree with me sometimes. " She informs him softly and sincerely. Her fur along her spine was bristling. It took her considerable effort to keep her eyes and some other features from changing. She was slightly on edge now. But she didn't wish to scare Micolash or Henry away.

Henry circles around to face Micolash again, looking up at him expectantly. The scholar addresses the feline with, "Can you find the Kin for us? Do you know which room he's in?" The cat blinks slowly, once, and licks his paw. Okay, well, talking to cats isn't THAT crazy for a man who's mind is obviously a little-
Oh. Henry gets up and pads away, heading down the hallway and turning the corner. Although maybe he just decided it's time to leave this strange human behind and go wander. Cats are like that. Micolash, meanwhile, stands up from his crouch and starts picking white hairs from off his scholar's regalia.

She tilts her head and watches them with a small smile. She talked to critters etc too even if they couldn't talk back or at least the human way. Maybe if he meowed she could understand him but she tries to decipher his body language at the moment.
She half hums, and watches them both, wondering if they should follow or not. Pretty kitty she thought fondly and slightly wistful. Half wishing to pet him someday if he let her the tip of her tail wags again.

While not visible, the lingering presence could be described as demonic, or dark in its nature. A voice comes from the space this mysterious being is occupying, seeming to come from up high as thought it is floating in the air.
"Ahh, Micolash, you have brought a guest over? This is on such short notice..."
no subject
He looks down at Henry, smiling, but then back up again, smile vanishing. "Oh, but please do not give her any of that awful paste." For all he knows, that's all the food that's IN this place.
no subject
She looks between the pair. "Ah..I don't mean to be a bother..I'am some what new..round here..Perhaps you know of some places to get such even would be appreciated. " She replies in a soft and clear slightly apologetic tone and a sheepish smile.
Every time he says paste she thinks of astronaut food.

After a moment of hesitation, Abysa dispells his invisibility, revealing himself as a tall humanoid demon. He wears dark, well-worn robes and a hood, and floats a bit off the ground. Under his hood it seems like his face only has a mouth, the blank space above it wrapped in a blindfold. He wrings his gray hands with some apprehension as he looks at Micolash's guest.
"I ah, well, I suppose any friend of my ...friend, is welcome, provided you mean no harm... My name is Abysa, and I am the keeper of this place. I am fortunate enough to have nourishment here suitable for a mortal. As in proper food items, I mean. If that is all that is needed?"
no subject
He doesn't say anything, he just looks back and forth between the floating demon and their guest.

Her eyes widen a mite. She takes another small step back and looks upward to get a good look at the er being. Her fur under her hood floofs up more into her dark hair of the same color. "I won't bite. " She states a bit jokingly. With a lopsided wolfish like smirk and a wry sort of cough chuckle. So long as nobody tried that or anything to her first of course. She wondered how strong that force shield thing was. But she knew better then to rely on it completely.
She nods, "hmm if ya have a sink and such, Aye. " She murmurs softly in reply. She could whip up some yummy thinks baked and other wise with the proper materials and ingredients if need be. She swallows slightly she certainly hoped it wasn't like her friend Teddy's joke products that sometimes had transformation properties however temporary.
no subject
"But on the topic of a 'sink'... Oh that is right. I had a kitchen prepared when I took in my current charge, and I did make sure to include a lot of things, like an oven, counters, a sink, and so forth... Unfortunately, it has gone unused as he dislikes food and drink, and I rarely need to eat at all. I suppose I could allow you to use it, if you like." As the demon speaks, he glances to Micolash several times, looking more anxious than the scholar would be used to seeing.
no subject
"I'm helping someone," he finally says, a simple statement spoken with pride. This should be pleasing to Abysa, right? He talks about trying to teach him kindness all the time, after all.
no subject
She tilts her head and listens. "Ah I see." What was it with bachelors and sort of thing honestly. She mentally sighs. "Ahem, yes thank you that would be most appreciated. " She states politely squaring her shoulders though. She blinked, she probably shouldn't make this visit too long for a few reasons. She wasn't sure what that look was about.
She looked toward and smiles slightly at Micolash. "Aye, and I'am very grateful for it." She states warmly and matter of factly. She half wondered if..was Abysa..his patrol officer or something? Did they have some sort of Faustian deal type thing?
no subject
"Right, well, I can show you to the kitchen. It should be stocked with plenty of typical foodstuffs still. Utensils too, and dishes. I mean, if you have a request, it would not be too hard to conjure up, I'm sure. Please, right this way." With that, Abysa turns around in the air, and makes to float back down the hallway. He turns for a moment to see if the others will follow. Henry, seeming to sense a chance of food being served, follows the demon readily.
"Oh, is it too dark? I can make it easier for you to see." With a wave of his hand, the sconces lighting the hall brighten slightly.
no subject
Eyes darting between the two of them, he eventually says cautiously, "Shall I...just wait in my chambers, then? This whole 'kitchen' situation is not...my sort of setting." For a wide variety of reasons, but mainly because: food is terrible.
no subject
"oh right.. certainly, thank you.. " She replies softly and politely still absorbing things. She pads after him subtly sniffing and scanning the area. Well if Henry wasn't scared.
"um oh, that's much better thank you." She replies automatically before looking towards Micolash.
"um oh..up to you..if it make ya feel better. " Prehaps she could talk to Abysa and see if the caged scholar might try a protein shake or something. "oh, I could um I.V. with something for him if you think he can stomach it." She half states half asks toward them both. Looking tween them. After all she didnt' know his dietary intake yet other than 'paste'.
no subject
"Also, ah, yes. He did not receive his meal today either... I had considered intravenous therapy for him but it seems he is unusually resilient for someone so malnourished, and it has not been necessary. He also needs to work on the process of eating and drinking mechanically, as it seems he has forgotten." Abysa speaks as he begins to lead them down the halls, the sconces near them lighting up brighter as they get close, and dimming as they pass. Henry walks along with his tail up, the tailtip curled, appearing relaxed.
no subject
He follows along behind the cat and demon, fingers steepled and pointed downwards. Pensive and distracted, listening to Abysa's explanations with a frown. "You make me sound like an infant," he mumbles. Is Abysa just trying to shame him now in front of his guest? And then he absorbs the first part of the demon's statement, stopping in his tracks and shaking his hands. "I don't need to eat! I drank the glass this morning, remember?" You know, the water. The only thing he insisted he could choke down earlier today.

Kitty kitty, she thought fondly watching Henry. Some cats however didn't like her canine ness. Through her own kitty didn't mind. Little Princess Marie. She was white and fluffy.
The right side of her lip curls upward a little. At mircolashs words. "Ah I see. " She murmur softly and rubs her chin. Surely there had to be something they could do to make things easier.
She narrowed her eyes a wee bit. Well that wasn't good. To say the least.

Soon, after what seems to be a turn here, and a turn there, down identical-seeming hallways, Abysa arrives at a pair of double-doors where he stops. The doors themselves are plain wood with brass knobs, and upon opening them, there seems to be generously-sized kitchen within. The walls, tile floor and ceiling are all shades of off-white and beige, clashing immediately with the dull and dark stonework of the hall. There seems to be all manner of appliances present, and all sorts of dishes, a spice rack packed with all manner of spices (some not even of earth!), dried herbs hanging on the walls, a stocked walk-in pantry off to the side... And it would be natural to assume the large fridge would be the similarly packed as well.
Abysa peers inside with a small wistful sigh. "Part of me did hope Micolash here would be familiar with the culinary arts, but it seems he has naught but disdain for food and its preparation. I personally have used the kitchen very little, even after all the work I did to secure it." As for how all of this managed to be acquired, or how the kitchen itself seems to be of completely different design than the rest of the stonework complex, that remains a mystery.
"But of course, you must be familiar with cooking, miss? If you have the sense to seek food when you are hungry, it would be only natural. You may use anything you find within." Abysa floats to the side of the doors as to not be in the way. And also so that he may be near Micolash.
Henry goes inside first, immediately sniffing about. For this kitty, it's time to prowl about seeking crumbs and treats.

When they've come upon the kitchen, Micolash lingers at the door's threshold, looking around the facilities with trepidation. Maybe a little disdain as well. The scholar's disgruntled mood comes out as he eventually grumbles, "By Oedon, you would think not wanting to eat was a crime around this place. Am I the only one who truly sees the process for the disgusting ritual it is?"
That being said, Micolash sulks by the door, arms crossed and also to one side of the doors now. When he's joined by Abysa, he turns that frown down towards the floor. I'm not looking at you. You're embarrassing me.

A part of her went somber and concerned however. Her eyebrows went near in her hair and her mouth opened in half awe and tried not to drool as her stomach gave an appreciative growl. She was a bit of a foodie. And loved to make and try things out and plan parties and the like with her friends etc. She often made welcome baskets and care packages etc. to give out round town back in StoryBrooke.
"Ah I see..well I rather.. enjoy.. such things miself." She murmers softly and glances sideways toward Micolash. Knowing he didn't particularly like it for many reasons. Now she understood even more so. It was not unlike someone haveing had major surgery or trauma. Some had little appetite or we're frustated understandably. Well as others had renewed and large ones but had to take it slow.
She smiles warmly, "um aye.. I do..quite a bit and um it's Mrs. ahem Thank you very much..Mr. Abysa." She replies doing her best to try and sound it out correctly not wishing to offend him. Trying her best to punctuate it in a imitation of Micolash. Which was usually how she learned how to enunciation unfamiliar words by copying someone else's speech patterns.
She follows Henry in with a soft smile. "oh I'm sure we can find or rustle something up for you something too Henry." She remarks fondly.
She barely blinks but her shoulders go up a little at Micolash's remark. She really shouldn't let her bother her. It's not personal, She mentally reminded herself. She sighs softly and goes to the sink first to wash up a little while she looks for a spot to put her things down so she can work unencumbered but still have them in sight and at hand.

The kitchen is like a dream, really, not only is it well-stocked but there is plenty of counter space as well. Henry, being a cat, believes all that space is meant especially for him, and he jumps up to a countertop. At the mention of his name, he seems intent on shadowing her now, in hopes she will make good on her offer of food.
Abysa and Micolash linger just outside the door still, and the demon leans into the doorway for a quick glance about, making sure nothing is amiss. Then he turns to Micolash, leaning down to speak with him quietly and privately.
"Now do not take this as, ah, me scolding you for helping others. In that sense, you are being quite thoughtful. But ... I thought perhaps I had explained before, I keep this place and my presence hidden as to not disturb the denizens of the Nexus..." He says with a low voice, and then takes a quick moment to turn and look inside the kitchen once more.

Now when the supposed Kin is speaking to him low and privately, however, does his demeanour loosen just slightly. Now appearing mollified instead, Micolash's frown falls and his eyes do the same, looking down at the inside of his metal collar instead. "She doesn't know anymore where this is than I do. I used the bracelet you gave me." He holds up his wrist to pull down his cuff to show it. "Why? Do you think she will mean you harm...?" Because Micolash would have just as much a problem with that as Abysa would! And the Kin is clearly better at reading people and emotions than he is.

She smiles at Henry and decides to look in the cupboards first to see if there's anything kitty friendly to start him on.
Her ear flicks under her hood, but so long as she doesn't catch any worrying words she let's them be for now.

"I do hate to sound paranoid, but my time living freely amongst mortals has been put to an end. I would rather observe as a hidden presence, to minimize possible chaos or hostility."
Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Henry has just been alerted to the existence of cupboards. He stands up on his hind legs as he bats at a cupboard door, wondering why it does not open as easily as it does for the nice lady. Inside most of them seem to be basic things; flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, and so on, but also boxes of crackers, cookies, and the like. Most of the snacks seem to be unsalted and bland, or lightly flavoured.
Henry sits like an upright pear, nose pointed up as he sniffs about. He lets out a plaintive "Mahh", as though asking the mysterious little doors why they do not open for him.
